It’s the battle for the honor of being the tenth-best team in a league that calls itself the Big 12, and it’s the game that each program is looking at as a real, honest chance to get a win in an otherwise miserable season.

Iowa State has been competitive and in the five-game losing streak, losing three of the five games by seven points or fewer, and last week pushing Oklahoma hard in a 34-24 loss.

There are plenty of positive signs in Matt Campbell’s first season, with an interesting backfield set up and a potentially solid running game once all the parts are healthy.

Mike Warren has been banged up, but he’s expected to roll with an ankle injury, and backup David Montgomery is in the equation after suffering an apparent concussion.

The backs, along with running quarterback Joel Lanning – as part of a quarterback shuffle with Jacob Park, the passer – the Cyclones have parts. They have playmakers to build around, and now they need to shine against a miserable Kansas defense.

The Jayhawks only came up with one game in the last seven allowing fewer than 43 points, and the offense hasn’t had any answers and hasn’t had any new ideas. There was a shot at beating TCU in a 24-23 loss, but that was it in terms of being competitive.

Kansas will turn the ball over three times, Iowa State will grind out over 200 yards on the ground, and it’ll be a good moment for a Cyclone team that should show the promise and potential of what it could look like in the near future.

*To be honest, it looks like yet another brutally dull sci-fi thing, but it’s 100%, so you’re supposed to see it or else.
