Florida State’s season has been a disaster.

This is a team talented enough to win the national title, or at least get to the College Football Playoff, but instead, it already lost three games and now is just playing out the string, finishing up with a trip to a bowl game of some sort.

The team put up an amazing fight in the loss to Clemson, and its games have been thrilling, but this isn’t what Seminole fans signed up for.

But as bad as the year has been, at least FSU didn’t lose to Boston College – that game is next week.

North Carolina State suffered the ignominy of being the one that stopped the BC ACC losing streak.

At 4-1 and with a kick to beat Clemson and become the big national story, the Wolfpack missed, lost in overtime, and hasn’t been able to get its mojo back in a brutally ugly blowout loss to Louisville before losing to Boston College.

At home.

And now, with two of the last three games on the road – at Syracuse, Miami, at North Carolina – it’s danger time. The Pack now have to fight just to go bowling.

The offense has hit the skids at the exact wrong time – failing to score more than 17 points in any of the last four games – while the defense isn’t picking up the slack.

Can Dalvin Cook take advantage of the problems?

The NC State defensive line is more than good enough to rise up and shut down the Nole offense that had a nightmare of a time against the Clemson defensive front last week – QB Deondre Francois almost got killed taking big shot after big shot – but no one’s stopping Cook at the moment.

The team’s problems might keep him out of the Heisman chase, but he’s been among the best backs in the country with five straight 100-yard games including a thrilling 169-yard, four-score performance against Clemson on just 19 carries.

He hit NC State for 138 yards and two scores last year, and he’ll do more of the same this time around, as the FSU defensive front does its part to keep the Wolfpack offensive woes going.
