Butch Davis isn’t coming by quite yet.
FIU made its big, splashy hire next week, and now the last two games will be about whether or not the new era will have a little momentum with Marshall this week and Old Dominion next week to close everything out.
The Golden Panthers have lost three straight, with the defense having problems again following a decent midseason stretch, and now they have to deal with a Marshall offense coming off one of its better performances of the season.
Granted, the Thundering Herd beat Middle Tennessee 42-17 because the Blue Raiders didn’t have QB Brent Stockstill, but the offense has been able to throw relatively well all season long, even if it can’t consistently move the chains.
All MU might have to do, though, is score a bit early, since it’s once again playing a team without a quarterback.
The Golden Panthers won’t have Alex McGough, so it’ll be Maurice Alexander or bust. While the freshman can run a little bit, he has to prove he can throw a bit after giving away two picks in the loss to WKU two weeks ago.
Will the rest help FIU? Yup. The Golden Panthers will come up with a good enough defensive effort to keep this close, and the Marshall defense will go back to being the Marshall defense.
