Bowling Green (1-8) vs. Akron (5-5) Game Preview

Date: Wednesday, Nov. 9
Game Time: 8:00 pm
Venue: InfoCision Stadium, Akron, OH
Network: ESPNU

Akron is one win away from being bowl eligible, but it’s been that way for a while.

It’s been a hard road for the Zips, who started the season in rebuilding mode, but managed to crank up the offense to make up for a painful defense that can’t seem to stop anyone, especially lately.

The D has been ripped apart over the last four months, giving up 41 points or more in three of the last four games including recent losses in other chances to get bowl eligible. It’s not that hard – Akron can’t overcome games when the defense doesn’t show up at all. It’s 5-0 when allowing fewer than 41 points, and 0-5 when allowing that many or more.

Bowling Green has yet to score more than 35 this year, and has only scored more than 27 once.

The Falcons have lost seven in a row and have yet to win a game against an FBS team. The offense hasn’t been good enough, the defense has been worse, and this has been a lost first year under head coach Mike Jinks in a massive rebuilding mode.

This isn’t going to be the week it all comes together for the Falcons.

They can’t stop turning the ball over, and they can’t stop anyone’s offense on third downs – ranking last in the nation in both categories.

Akron will take advantage of the layup and get that sixth win it’s been pushing for.
