You know how Nick Saban always goes Chicken Little when it comes to needing to focus and prepare for the total lightweight FCS team that everyone knows doesn’t stand a chance of staying within a bajillion points? This is sort of one of those games, too, but only because Alabama is so good – but Chattanooga is good, too.

The 12th-ranked team is coming off a key loss to Wofford, but it’s a dangerous team with a terrific offense, highlighted by a killer ground game and one of the most effective passing games at the lower level. Meanwhile, the Mocs have the No. 1 pass defense in the FCS and the fifth-ranked D.

No, the talent level isn’t remotely close to being good enough to hold up against the Alabama pass rush, but in the traditional chill out game before dealing with Auburn, this could be an annoying battle to get through if the focus isn’t there.

It’s Saban’s job to keep the team’s eyes on its paper, but as good as it is, it’s still has to try.

The two Chattanooga losses came to the running teams – Wofford and Citadel. Bama doesn’t have to go to the triple-option to pull this off, but the running game should work on the outside.

It might take a little while to get things moving against a run D that’s allowing just 136 yards per game, but give it a quarter and the Tide will wake up to put this away.

The only thing that matters for Alabama is keeping everyone healthy. Get the stars out as soon as possible, get working on Auburn and the SEC championship, and work on the depth.
