Alabama 30, Auburn 12: What Does It All Mean?

There’s no question who the No. 1 team continues to be

Ohio State might have a better overall resume, and Clemson and Washington might be strong, but Alabama continues to keep the foot on the gas as the No. 1 team in college football. And now, with this double-digit win, it should be in the College Football Playoff no matter what – even with a loss to Florida. The Crimson Tide took care of business with yet another dominant performance from a killer defense that was able to hold Auburn to ..

66 rushing yards

The Crimson Tide defense held firm when it had to, it didn’t break when it bent, and he kept one of the nation’s most dangerous rushing attacks to just 66 yards on 26 carries. The Tigers didn’t get a run more than 13 yards with Kerryon Johnson coming up with just 39 yards and Kamryn Pettway held to 17 yards on 12 carries. And then there’s the Auburn quarterback problem – it didn’t work. No Sean White, big problem, with Jeremy Johnson completing just 4-of-13 passes for 34 yards, and John Franklin III hitting just 2-of-4 throws – but with a giant 55-yarder – when he got his shot.

Jalen Hurts … Heisman?

Nah, and he might not even be a finalist, but he showed off just how much of an MVP he really is with a few timely runs, a score to go along with 37 yards, and with a 27-of-36 day for 286 yards and two scores. He threw two picks, but he took over the game at times, and got a wee bit of help from ArDarius Stewart, who caught ten passes for 127 yards and a score as the Crimson Tide offense was balanced, solid, and did what it needed to do against a terrific defense that held its own to keep the Tigers in the game.

Can Auburn possibly go to the Sugar Bowl?

It’ll be an interesting argument if Florida loses to Florida State. The Tigers beat LSU, and they end up ranked higher in the College Football Playoff rankings – if they don’t drop too far after being put at 13 last week – they could still end the season on a New Year’s Six high note.
