Bowl and Conference Implications

Ohio wins the MAC East and is off to the title game with a win over a Miami University loss to Ball State. Akron needs to win to be bowl eligible.

What’s Going To Happen?

Ohio failed to finish off the MAC East run with a loss at Central Michigan last week but with a good run defense and a balanced attack, the team is playing just good enough to finish off the regular season strong and get to the title game next week.

Outside of the disastrous opening-week loss to Texas State, the Bobcats have been solid, with only a loss at Tennessee and two okay seven-point losses along the way, but now the awful pass defense has to be able to hang with a desperate Akron passing game that’ll bomb away.

Akron QB Thomas Woodson has a bum shoulder, and backup Tra’Von Chapman has an upper body injury of his own for a team that’s whiffed on the last three chances to get bowl eligible. It should’ve been able to beat Bowling Green last week or Buffalo a few weeks early, but whiffed in puzzling blowout losses.

The Bobcat running game hasn’t been able to rock for a while, but it should be able to run without a problem for the first time since tearing off 269 yards in the win over Toledo. Junior Dorian Brown has turned it on over the second half of the season, and now he and the Bobcats should control the game throughout against a Zip team that keeps the ball for under 26 minutes a game.
