Western Michigan (8-0) vs. Ball State (4-4) Game Preview
Date: Tuesday, Nov. 1
Game Time: 8:00 pm
Venue: Scheumann Stadium, Muncie, IN
It’s there for the taking, Western Michigan. Win your next five games, and you’re off to a New Year’s Six bowl game – most likely the Cotton Bowl.
With Boise State losing to Wyoming, the Broncos are the last remaining unbeaten Group of Five team, and they’ve remained unbeaten with an explosion, scoring 41 points or more in each of the last five games and against everyone but Illinois and Northwestern.
But Ball State isn’t going to be a pushover.
The Cardinals have a dangerous ground game, and a strong enough run defense to stay alive against almost everyone. However, they’ve lost three of their last four games, even if they’ve been close.
Can the Ball State secondary hold up under the pressure of the WMU passing attack? It’s been a rough season for the Cardinal pass defense, giving up over 300 yards a game over the last five, and getting hit for six touchdown passes with no picks in the last two.
WMU can score in every way possible, but this will be Zach Terrell’s day, coming off a 29-of-35 day – hitting 83% of his throws – for 398 yards and three scores against Eastern Michigan.
Strange things happen on weeknight MAC games, and the Broncos have more to come, but they’ll overcome a terrific first half from the Cardinal offense to pull away in the second.
