What else does West Virginia have to do to prove it’s for real?
The Mountaineers are already showing they can keep up the pace in shootouts, they’ve proven they can bring the D – holding each of their first three Big 12 opponents to 17 points or fewer – and they have some real non-conference wins over Missouri and BYU.
But they still haven’t faced Oklahoma, Baylor, or Oklahoma State – and now they’re the hunted.
Can the offensive balance throw a curveball at the Cowboys? Can the terrific secondary shut down Mason Rudolph like it did Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes and TCU’s Kenny Hill?
With three of their last four games on the road, Oklahoma State can’t afford to miss this chance. It’s on a three-game roll, but two of those wins are against Texas and Iowa State. The Big 12 title is still in the picture with just the one conference loss to Baylor, and this week, the offense is in place to give West Virginia one of its toughest tests of the year.
However, the Cowboy secondary isn’t going to be able to hold up.
OSU’s been steadily bad throughout this year against everyone’s passing game, but it’s 5-0 when allowing fewer than 300 yards and 0-2 when allowing more.
It’s going to be a back-and-fourth shootout, and Skyler Howard will be up to it for the Mountaineers, coming off his four-touchdown performance against TCU to hit that 300-yard mark and keep the fun going on the way to 8-0 – just assume the home win over Kansas.
Is West Virginia for real? It doesn’t matter. It’ll just keep on winning.
