Venue: Reser Stadium, Corvallis, OR

Washington State is getting fun, exciting, and interesting. While head coach Mike Leach appears to have more goofy out-loud thoughts than usual, just as the football team has gotten rip-roaring hot.

On a five-game winning streak, the Cougars are playing like the second-best team in the Pac-12 right now behind Washington, only with one really big difference – Wazzu has actually beaten someone decent.

The Cougars have the wins over Oregon and Stanford, just like Washington does, but it also has a win over UCLA. Also, the loss to Boise State came to a better opponent than anyone the team on the other side of the state has faced so far.

And now Washington State is one supposedly easy date against Oregon State away from getting three of the final four games at home.

Going to Colorado will be nasty, and dealing with firefights against Arizona, Cal and, of course, Washington won’t be easy, but first, getting by the Beavers on the road could be more of a problem than it might appear.

It’s been a brutal year for Gary Andersen’s OSU team, but one of the two wins came against a relatively-similar-to-Wazzu, high-powered Cal team in overtime. How did it happen? The Beavers ran amok.

That’s not going to happen this week.

With starting QB Darell Garretson knocked out for the year a few weeks ago, and with backup Conor Blount hurting, but expected to be back, the Beaver offense hasn’t had any luck over the last two weeks in losses to Utah and Washington.

This is still a plucky team that occasionally rises up on defense, but it’s about to get stopped by the good Washington State defensive front that’ll stop the spread attack before it gets started by getting into the backfield.

Luke Falk is hitting 73% of his throws for the Cougars and should keep things going with plenty of midrange passes to force Oregon State to take several defensive chances. The Cougar passing game will eat it all up.
