Tulane (3-3) vs. Tulsa (4-2) Game Preview

Date: Saturday, Oct. 22
Game Time: 3:45 pm
Venue: Chapman Stadium, Tulsa, OK
Network: ESPNU

Tulsa has to get past the heartbreak of coming within inches of a game-tying touchdown in the wild final moments against Houston in a 38-31 loss, and with three of the next four game on the road, it needs to home win to all but be assured of a bowl appearance.

The Golden Hurricane fans aren’t getting cheated, following up two thrilling overtime wins with that Houston finish, but this week, they have to get used to dealing with the Tulane running game that’s been good, but hasn’t taken control quite yet.

The Green Wave have been more than just competitive under new head coach Willie Fritz, but they just don’t have the talent to get past the bigger boys. However, the defense has been fantastic, the offense hasn’t committed a ton of big errors, and the team overall has been just good enough to stay competitive with everyone.

But as good as the defense has been, it’s about the O.

Tulane is 3-0 when scoring more than 14 points, 0-3 when scoring 14 or fewer.

Tulsa’s defense couldn’t handle Ohio State or Houston on the ground – no shame there – but those were the only two losses this season and the only two times the D allowed more than 200 yards. You beat Tulsa through the air, not on the ground, and Tulane won’t be able to do that.

It’s Tulsa, so it’ll be another close, tight game that’ll come down to the final moments. The Golden Hurricane will connect on a few key third down plays, Tulane won’t.
