Why Georgia Will Win

South Carolina still hasn’t figured out how to move the ball.

It was able to stay alive against Texas A&M thanks to a defense that’s been far more effective and far stronger than last year, but there simply aren’t any offensive playmakers.

The receiving corps is banged, bruised, and ineffective, and quarterbacks Brandon McIlwain or Perry Orth simply aren’t capable of making the team around them better.

McIlwain was supposed to be the big sparkplug this year, but the true freshman hasn’t shown anything for the passing attack – he threw for 34 yards on nine completions against A&M – and he hasn’t been able to get loose and use his mobility.

That’s not going to happen against the Georgia defensive front, either.

Surprisingly, the secondary has been the big issue so far for the Bulldogs, but that’s not going to be any sort of a problem this week. Load up against the run, rely on the ground game – Nick Chubb is expected to be ready to go – and be angry and confident after …

Why South Carolina Will Win

What happened last week.

This isn’t the type of Georgia team experienced enough or talented enough to realistically be thinking about the College Football Playoff in Kirby Smart’s first season, but it had a moment against Tennessee when it seemed like it was about to all of a sudden change into one of those types of seasons.

But Jacob Eason’s late touchdown pass was, of course, offset by the epic Tennessee Hail Mary to all but clinch the SEC East, and now South Carolina has to catch Georgia on the rebound.

As good as Eason was in in the clutch against the Vols, as well as Missouri, he hasn’t been consistent. For all of South Carolina’s problems, it’s been okay at keeping the deep ball plays to a bare minimum, and it’s been unbelievable at somehow holding firm after allowing long drives.

It always seems like offenses are marching on the Gamecock D – which they are – and not getting anything out of it.

That’s because that’s what’s happening. South Carolina has somehow been able to stay in every game, but …

What’s Going To Happen?

It’s sure going to be interesting now that it’s on Sunday night. It’ll have its own sort of funky feel to it.

Considering the expected weather issues, this will get ugly.

Georgia will dominate the tempo and the game. South Carolina, for all its mucking up it does to keep games within range, doesn’t know how to go on long drives, much less long scoring drives.

Georgia will have the ball for about 40 minutes. The Gamecocks simply won’t have enough chances offensively, and they won’t do enough with the chances they get.
