Venue: Camp Randall Stadium, Madison, WI

Why Akron Will Win

Akron doesn’t have Brandon Harris at quarterback.

The Zip passing game bombed away from the start against VMI last week with Thomas Woodson going off, completing 72% of his passes for 407 yards and six touchdowns with a pick. The Akron defense isn’t going to be good enough to hold up against the Badger power, but Woodson should be able to keep the pressure on the UW secondary far more than LSU did – as crazy as that might sound. This week, Akron is the team with nothing to lose.

And that could be an even bigger problem for the Badgers – can they somehow gear up the energy level anywhere near where it was in Lambeau Field? It might seem too simplistic to suggest some sort of a letdown effect, but that’s exactly what might happen considering what it took to take down one of the best teams in college football.

Why Wisconsin Will Win

Welcome to the Corey Clement 200-yard game.

For those Badger fans who missed the running game all throughout last year, this will be your moment. Akron put together a heck of a defense last season, but it was a veteran group that didn’t make a whole slew of mistakes – the D was terrific at bottling everything up.

This is a young front seven this year that came out rocking against VMI – allowing just 86 rushing yards – but after doing nothing on the opening drive, the Badgers will run at will as the game goes on.

Meanwhile, the Akron ground game won’t exist. The Zips might have averaged 5.2 yards per carry last week, but that’s not going to happen against a D that kept the best running back in college football – maybe in all of football – from going off. Leonard Fournette might have come up with 138 yards, but it was a fight to get there. Akron won’t run for 100 yards.

What’s Going To Happen?

It’ll be a tight first quarter, but the Badgers will quickly wear down the Zips the rest of the way with the defense putting the offense in good positions time after time. It’ll take three quarters to put this away.
