There might be some big games this weekend, but the MAC superpower and the Sun Belt powerhouse should play one of the most compelling games of the week. At the very least, it’ll be better than last year’s Georgia Southern’s 43-17 blowout win.

Georgia Southern has kept the running fun going under new head coach Tyson Summers, going what Georgia Southern does cranking out over 300 rushing yards per game.

Granted, the competition hasn’t been anything to get excited about, but the offense still works, the run defense has been among the best in the country, and everything has been tuning up to get to this point.

The points haven’t been flying off the board, and it took way too much to put away a bad ULM team, but it’s 3-0 going into a brutal stretch of four straight road games and five in the next six.

How do you get by a team like Western Michigan on the road? You control the clock and keep the high-powered opposing offense off the field. Keep it for over 37 minutes, and that’ll happen.

Unlike the Eagles, though, Western Michigan has played someone, winning the Illinois State Big Ten Championship taking down Northwestern in the opener and blowing out Illinois last week.

This is supposed to be the best team in the MAC, and it’s playing like it with a somewhat surprising defense that’s more than matching the outstanding offense.

QB Zach Terrell has been flawless so far hitting 70% of his throws with five touchdown passes and no picks, while RB Jamuari Bogan is averaging 6.7 yards per pop and Corey Davis is doing what Corey Davis does averaging 17.6 yards per catch.

But in this game against this opponent, it’s the defensive front that’ll get the Broncos the win.

Illinois netted just three rushing yards last week against a run defense that’s allowed just 232 yards so far on the season. Georgia Southern will crank up the running game, but not enough to get the Sun Belt a massive win.
