Memphis (2-0) vs. Bowling Green (1-2) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, September 24th
Game Time: 8:00 pm
Venue: Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, Memphis TN
Two coaches still new to their head coaching gigs at their respective programs are starting out very differently.
So far, Mike Norvell is doing a terrific job for a Memphis team with a killer defense that’s taking the ball away with ease, at least last week with a +6 turnover margin against Kansas.
The offense that’s trying to get past the loss of Paxton Lynch and head coach Justin Fuente hasn’t kicked in the firepower against two bad teams, but the Tigers rolled without a problem scoring a total of 78 points against SE Missouri State and Kansas. Can the offense find the fun against a bad Bowling Green D before having to go to Ole Miss?
Falcon head coach Mike Jinks is struggling so far to find some hint of an offense that was so dangerous last year. Instead, the passing game is painfully inefficient, and and the defense can’t seem to come up with anything positive against Ohio State and Middle Tennessee.
Memphis QB Riley Ferguson has been solid, the running game rolling, and the defense should be able to force several mistakes against a Bowling Green offense that can’t stop giving the ball away. However, the Tiger offensive front has been just okay in pass protection – the Falcons will have a few moments of fun in between getting bombed on.
