Illinois (1-1) vs. Western Michigan (2-0) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, September 17th
Game Time: 4:00 pm
Venue: Memorial Stadium, Champaign, IL
Can Western Michigan become the best college football team in Illinois? It already handled Northwestern in a bizarre late win in Evanston, and now it’s on to Champaign to make an even bigger statement for the MAC.
The Broncos have one of the MAC’s most talented teams – it’s been building to this point for the last few years – but it needs to be tighter in the secondary and more consistent with the passing game.
Blowing away North Carolina Central was nice, but QB Zach Terrell and the bunch can prove this might be a truly special season by getting the job done against an Illini D that needs to get back up off the mat.
No one’s expecting miracles right away, but Lovie Smith’s bunch showed just how far they have to go in a blowout home loss to a motivated North Carolina squad. The run defense should be enough to keep WMU from ever getting comfortable, but can the secondary stop Terrell?
It’ll be a shootout with Illinois QB Wes Lunt making up for a horrible day against the Tar Heels with a sharper day to balance out an O that’ll rotate the backs to keep the Broncos off-balance.
