Where are all the Conference USA teams going this post-season? What bowls are their destiny? Here are the College Football News preseason predictions and bowl projections looking at where the Conference USA teams will go.
2016 Conference USA Preseason Bowl Projections
The hope is for a Conference USA team to be ranked high enough in the final College Football Playoff rankings to get into a New Year’s Six bowl. If that doesn’t happen, then it’s open market time.
There aren’t any set tie-ins with the league being able to send their teams to whatever bowls look like the best fits. Geography, matchup, and pizzazz on a national scale – as much as possible – all play a big role. The champion doesn’t have a set bowl to go to.
So with all that in mind, the 2016 preseason Conference USA bowl projections are …
Not Projected Bowl Eligible: Connecticut, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa
Marmot Boca Raton Bowl vs. American Athletic
Marshall vs. South Florida
Gildan New Mexico Bowl vs. Mountain West
UTEP vs. Utah State
Hawai’i Bowl vs. Mountain West
Middle Tennessee vs. Colorado State
NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl vs. Mountain West
New Mexico vs. Southern Miss (no Sun Belt team expected to be bowl eligible)
R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl vs. Sun Belt
Louisiana Tech vs. Louisiana-Lafayette
Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl vs. Big Ten
WKU vs. Indiana
Camping World Independence Bowl
Conditional if ACC or SEC can’t fill a spot.
