Miami football schedule predictions and early game-by-game preview for 2016. Projecting how the Hurricanes will do this year.
Just how good will Miami be in the first year under Mark Richt? Will the Hurricanes really be ready to make a push for the Coastal title? Here are the Miami football schedule predictions for every game this season.
Sept. 3 vs, Florida A&M
The Rattlers beat Miami, 16-13, in 1979 – by the way, the Hurricanes beat a strong Penn State team, 26-10, that same year. After that, Miami is 9-0 in the series by a combined score of 441 to 56. The Mark Richt era will start out well.
Preseason Prediction: Miami 54, Florida A&M 0
Sept. 10 vs. Florida Atlantic
Call it the Howard Schnellenberger Classic. Florida Atlantic should should be okay as the season goes on, but it’ll be run on by the Miami ground attack all game long. This might be interesting for a quarter, and then it’ll get ugly.
Preseason Prediction: Miami 41, Florida Atlantic 14
Sept. 17 at Appalachian State
Don’t worry too much, Hurricane fans, but be a little concerned. It’s a strange road game against one of the best teams in the Sun Belt. The Mountaineers will be solid and they won’t make the big mistakes that could turn this into a blowout – Miami will have to work for the victory.
Preseason Prediction: Miami 27, Appalachian State 17
Oct. 1 at Georgia Tech
It would be nice to have a week off before facing Florida State, Notre Dame, or North Carolina, but getting time to prepare for the Georgia Tech offense might be more beneficial. The Yellow Jackets will be coming off a stunning win over Clemson, but they won’t be able to get past the rested and sharp Hurricanes.
Preseason Prediction: Miami 31, Georgia Tech 17
Oct. 8 vs. Florida State
The rivalry that used to stop the world has been all Florida State lately – the Seminoles have won six in a row and nine of the last 11. With all the hype and all the attention on the showdown, Richt will get his first truly big win as head coach. The former Seminole offensive coordinator will take his new program to a whole new level with one of the hardest-hitting performances of the season. The Canes will be +4 in turnover margin.
Preseason Prediction: Miami 20, Florida State 17
Oct. 15 vs. North Carolina
North Carolina flexed its muscle last season in a soul-crushing, 59-21 blowout over the Canes. This time around, fresh off the win over Florida State, and with the media attention off the charts, Miami will return the favor with a great day from Brad Kaaya and the offense in a fun shootout.
Preseason Prediction: Miami 38, North Carolina 31
Oct. 20 at Virginia Tech
Miami is in desperate need of a break that it’s not going to get. Just five days after dealing with North Carolina, and with the Florida State game still fresh, the Canes will come up with a clunker on the road on a nationally-televised Thursday night game. The Hokies have a short week, too, but they’ll take advantage of the crowd and the moment to stop Miami’s unbeaten season. Justin Fuente 1, Mark Richt 0.
Preseason Prediction: Virginia Tech 24, Miami 16
Oct. 29 at Notre Dame
Miami might get a long week to prepare after facing Virginia Tech on a Thursday night, but Notre Dame gets a whole two weeks off to rest up for the major home date. The Irish ground game will take over after a wild first quarter – the Miami attitude and fire will make this look great out of the gate.
Preseason Prediction: Notre Dame 26, Miami 20
Nov. 5 vs. Pitt
The Canes need a good, sharp win to get back on track after going on a two-game losing streak. That’s not exactly going to happen against a Panther team that’s every bit as good and just as much in the Coastal fight, but it’ll be a rough day for both sides. Miami will win, but it’ll look like it’s regressing – even though Pitt is just that good.
Preseason Prediction: Miami 23, Pitt 17
Nov. 12 at Virginia
Virginia will bring the extra fire in its final home game of the year – and the only home date in November. The Canes will have a tough time with the Cavalier defense, and the game won’t get out of hand, The Miami defensive front will control the tempo late to come out with a second-straight unimpressive win.
Preseason Prediction: Miami 17, Virginia 13
Nov. 19 at NC State
The Canes will have yet another rough time moving the ball, especially on the ground, but they’ll get yet another terrific game out of the defense to stick around. Just when it seems like the team is clunking along, the realization that the Coastal title is still a possibility – even after one of the year’s worst performances against a Wolfpack team in desperate need of something positive.
Preseason Prediction: NC State 24, Miami 13
Nov. 26 vs. Duke
Miami has owned the Blue Devils winning the last two meetings and 11 of the last 12. It’ll be more of the same in Miami with the Coastal Division there for the taking. It’ll be a complete effort from the offense after Duke throws a scare into the mix after the first quarter.
Preseason Prediction: Miami 33, Duke 20
2016 Prediction: 9-3
2016 ACC Prediction: 6-2
