Arkansas Razorbacks football schedule predictions and early game-by-game preview for 2016. Projecting how the Hogs will do this year.
Can Arkansas fight through a rebuilding year to come up with a big season? Will the Razorbacks’ football schedule be decent enough to help the cause? Check out the picks of every Arkansas game this year.
Sept. 3 vs. Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech will be in a rebuilding mode while Arkansas will try to keep it simple right out of the gate. For at least one week, the Hogs will go back to the ground-and-pound style their coaching staff loves.
Preseason Prediction: Arkansas 45, Louisiana Tech 20
Sept. 10 at TCU
Just how good are the 2016 Razorbacks? TCU has a tremendous defense, the offense should ramp it back up in a hurry, and the coaching is peerless – and yet Arkansas will find a way to win. This one is about pride, from when Arkansas got tagged by the Big 12 last year in a loss to Texas Tech – it’s not going to happen again in what should be a thriller.
Preseason Prediction: Arkansas 24, TCU 23
Sept. 17 vs. Texas State
The Bobcats have a quirky enough running game to make this a little bit of a fight for a while, but if it’s not working right away, this will get ugly early. Texas State’s defense won’t have a prayer.
Preseason Prediction: Arkansas 44, Texas State 10
Sept. 24 vs. Texas A&M (in Arlington)
In a neutral site contest, it’ll be an elimination game for the SEC West right away in conference play. Give Arkansas the defense to rise up and keep the Aggie attack in check enough to pull off a great win that comes down to a late Hog drive.
Preseason Prediction: Arkansas 34, Texas A&M 30
Oct. 1 vs. Alcorn State
Get the backups out there right away. With what’s coming next, the Hogs won’t be all that focused on anything other than giving everyone of note a week off.
Preseason Prediction: Arkansas 47, Alcorn State 6
Oct. 8 vs. Alabama
The hype and national attention will be at a whole other level, with many talking about how this could be the breakthrough moment in the Bret Bielema era. This isn’t the Alabama team of last year, but it’ll thrive in the road environment and, to flip the script, the narrative will be about how the Crimson Tide might be coming of age after a tough defensive win.
Preseason Prediction: Alabama 20, Arkansas 13
Oct. 15 vs. Ole Miss
It’ll be the post-Alabama effect. Arkansas is every bit as good as Ole Miss – if not better – but the Rebels have a week off before the road trip, while the Hogs will be beaten up the week before and won’t quite play up to snuff. The refreshed Rebels will take advantage.
Preseason Prediction: Ole Miss 31, Arkansas 21
Oct. 22 at Auburn
The problems continue all because the Hogs have to play another rested team. After two straight losses and a C- performance at home against Ole Miss, Arkansas will step up the defensive performance – but it won’t be enough. At home, the Tigers will come up with an entertaining win after getting a week off to prepare.
Preseason Prediction: Auburn 34, Arkansas 30
Nov. 5 vs. Florida
FINALLY, Arkansas gets a week off after a rough run of physical, tough games. Florida will make it a fight, but it’s coming off the Georgia showdown. This will be a grind of a game, but the Hogs will get a little more out of the passing game just when they need it most.
Preseason Prediction: Arkansas 26, Florida 20
Nov. 12 vs. LSU
Can LSU gear up for a brutal road game coming off the Alabama showdown? It’s not going to be the best effort by the Tigers, but it’ll be a balanced one from the offense in a rough game that won’t be pretty.
Preseason Prediction: LSU 20, Arkansas 17
Nov. 19 at Mississippi State
Just when it seems like Arkansas is in big, big trouble, it’ll come up with one of its better performances of the year. Bielema’s team will be more physical, tougher, and will get nasty on a Bulldog team trying to get over the loss at Alabama the previous week.
Preseason Prediction: Arkansas 37, Mississippi State 27
Nov. 26 at Missouri
Mizzou will pitch a defensive gem at home with bowl eligibility on the line. The Tigers’ defense will get in the backfield all game long in a frustrating day for the Hogs. It might not be a thing of beauty, but Barry Odom’s team will take it.
Preseason Prediction: Missouri 26, Arkansas 17
2016 Prediction: 7-5
2016 SEC Prediction: 3-5
