Colorado State Ram Resurgence

Just when it seemed like Jim McElwain took his fun and his team’s mojo with him to Florida, Colorado State turned out to be a big bit of alright. At 3-5, just getting to a bowl game in Mike Bobo’s first season seemed like way too tall a task, but with an excellent win over Air Force, and with four straight wins to close out the year, the team did it. The special teams are outstanding, there’s pop on offense, and there’s confidence after pitching a perfect November. It’s not bad for a transitional year for the team and the coaching staff.

Nevada’s Pistol Needs To Fire

Who loses to UNLV and Wyoming and goes off to a bowl game? In about as strange as any team’s path to the bowl season could get, Nevada beat a strong New Mexico team, got by San Jose State in overtime to become bowl eligible, and pretty much lost to all the good teams on the slate – along with two really bad ones. The passing game didn’t fly, the defense was okay, not great, and the Pistol running game didn’t pick up the slack late in the year. After coming up with one of the stunning duds of the 2014 bowl season – losing 16-3 to Louisiana-Lafayette in the New Orleans – Nevada owes its fans an offensive explosion. A win would be good, too.
